Missouri’s many lakes and rivers are teeming with fish ripe for the taking. Anglers will be pleased by the range of lakes and fish species, not to mention the fly fishing opportunities that can be found in Missouri’s rivers.

Missouri works to keep local and non-resident anglers informed and to harness anglers as a conservation resource for the state. They ask fishers to keep an eye out for zebra mussels and other known invasive.

The state also releases regular fish management updates to help keep anglers in the loop on locations that are being overfished, or that have a particularly high population and could use some more fishing pressure.

Missouri also operated on a seasonal fish system, so it’s important for anglers to have identification guides and work to make sure they’re only catching season-appropriate fish. Missouri's seasons for the game and non-game fish can be found here.

But, one of the best things about being an angler in Missouri is the state’s support for the hobby. They offer things like first-fish certificates, Master Angler awards, and other opportunities to certify and memorialize impressive catches, even if you don’t want to take them to a taxidermist!

As always, it’s important to keep an eye on water quality and algae warnings for Missouri waters.

Missouri also offers a variety of fishing events and tournaments, which residents and non-residents are invited to come and enjoy. Fishing license requirements, bag limits, and all other regulations are still in place unless specifically exempted by the event.
