Mississippi is rich in fishing opportunities from easy large and smallmouth bass and catfish, through to more challenging crappie or saltwater tarpon.

In Mississippi, all non-resident anglers 16 or older, and all residents between the ages of 16 and 64 are required to have a valid fishing license. They are required to have this license on them anytime they are actively fishing or transporting fish.

Some disabled individuals may qualify for discounts or waiving of license requirements. However, anyone who does not need to carry a fishing license is still required to carry documentation of their disability as well as proof of residence or state-ID.

The main requirement for residence in Mississippi is having a Mississippi state driver’s license or state-ID. Without a driver’s license, tax information or other proof of Mississippi residence can be used to purchase resident fishing licenses.

Proof of age, for seniors no longer required to have a fishing license, can be provided with a birth certificate or driver’s license.

The last residence consideration in Mississippi concerns their lifetime fishing licenses. Residents must live in Mississippi for at least 18 months prior to applying for the lifetime license.

It’s important to note that fresh and saltwater fishing is regulated separately in Mississippi. If you only go freshwater fishing, you don’t need a saltwater license and vice versa.

Mississippi does not offer any additional privileges or stamps beyond its basic licenses.
