Massachusetts offers a combination of freshwater and saltwater fishing, with reasonable licensing requirements, and a wide variety of fishable species.
Massachusetts has three main fisher categories. Adults, who are required to carry a license any time they are fishing, Youth, who are required to carry a license, but who are eligible for a discounted rate between 15-17, and people who are not required to carry a license.
In Massachusetts, minors 14 years old and under are not required to carry a fishing license. Seniors 70 years old and older still need a license but are eligible for free licenses. Seniors from 65-69 are eligible for discounted license rates.
Some individuals with disabilities may be eligible for free or discounted fishing license prices but are still required to have and to carry a fishing license.
If you order to license online in Massachusetts, it’s up to you to either print your own paper copy or to present your license on an electronic device when asked. Massachusetts does require that your license be legible, so a heavily cracked or very small screen may not be considered valid means of presenting your fishing license.
