fishing license cost starting at:
Maryland, like many coastal states, offers fresh and saltwater fishing. But add to that the opportunity for crabbing, and Maryland’s famously beautiful landscapes, and you have a wonderful recipe for fantastic fishing trips.
There are three basic types of fishing licenses you may need to fish in Maryland. Your basic non-tidal fishing license is probably all freshwater anglers will need. It covers you for inland fishing, excepting tidal pools.
The bay and coastal fishing licenses are an additional cost for fishers who want to try their hand in Maryland’s saltwater. You can purchase these licenses separately from the non-tidal fishing license, and you can combine them.
The last and least common license is crabbing licenses. These licenses are only required for non-residents or residents who want to use more than the basic equipment allowed with residency.
It’s also important to only engage in crabbing during crab season. That lasts from April 1st to December 15th.
In Maryland, all anglers age 16 and over are required to carry a fishing license anytime they are fishing or transporting fish.
However, there are some exceptions. Anglers who already have Potomac River fishing licenses are fishing on a Maryland Free Fishing day, or who are passengers on certain licensed ships, are not required to be licensed.
Military service members on leave in Maryland can also present their leave papers instead of a fishing license.
