Louisiana offers freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing, deep-sea chartered fishing trips, and much more. It's one of the most variable states when it comes to fishing opportunities and varieties of catchable fish. It’s no wonder that anglers want to spend some time exploring Louisiana’s many waterways.
In Louisiana, all recreational fishers age 16 and over are required to have a license. Individuals age 60 and over are eligible for a senior license at a discounted rate.
Louisiana also allows some restricted equipment, with the purchase of additional permits for that equipment. Anglers are also responsible for knowing what areas allow the use of that equipment, and what areas are restricted even with a permit.
Charter fishing trips also require a separate charter license for the appropriate number of days, in addition to any other licenses you may already have.
However, Louisiana’s fishing licenses include a wide variety of gear that restricted in other states or at least requires additional permitting. Your basic fishing license covers the use of bow and arrow, spears, scuba gear, gigs, and even cast nets within a specific size limitation.
Other included gear and basic regulations for the state of Louisiana can be found here.
